Pat McAfee finds himself in the eye of a media storm and, as a result, has to fend off some of the biggest media outlets in the world.

McAfee is arguably the most polarising figure in sports media today, as his loud, abrasive, and brash style of coverage – a style that famously rejects traditional and insightful analysis – has become something many fans have grown tired of.

And after a controversial weekend in Utah with the ESPN College GameDay crew, Pat McAfee has taken some strong decisions about his image in the public eye.

Pat McAfee vows to boycott ‘all media publications forever’ after 60 Minutes profile request

Speaking on his show, Pat McAfee revealed that CBS’ investigative news show, 60 Minutes, reached out to him to do a profile piece on him.

McAfee, who was already frustrated after a difficult weekend at the University of Utah, boldly declared that he would not sit down with any media publication going forward.

McAfee said: “60 Minutes reached out; they wanted to do a piece — yeah, the f*** right. Yeah, right. Never in a million [years]… Yeah, I’m sure that’d be fair. I’m sure that’d be a-OK. I’m sure that would go great. I would just like to let all media publications (know), I decline. Forever. Thank you.

“I’ve read what all of you have had to say, and I really question whether I should be allowed to do anything. I’m just going to continue forging forward, forging the river of sports… That’s literally where I have had to find myself after a lot of ink blots from everybody murdering my every move.”

McAfee is clearly feeling the backlash that he has received from media outlets and fans about the nature of his coverage and his overbearing presence on ESPN.

The comments he made also suggest that he is feeling frustrated about the way his image is being portrayed by media outlets outside of his partners at ESPN.

Clearly, McAfee is starting to push back on the way people perceive him and wants to take control of the narrative.
