As we all know, lunatics abound online, especially when it comes to college sports. Not Nebraska fans, of course, as we are noble and true defenders of our Cornhuskers and never go completely off the rails when our teams fail us. And we have gained valuable experience in this since winning the last three of our five national titles in the roaring 90’s. But whose fanbase has lost their minds the hardest thus far in 2026?
The nominees were fairly simple here.
#1 – Notre Dame. Given the entitlements they have received over the decades, it wasn’t a shocker that Domer fans crashed out, logic be damned, when informed the 2026 College Football Playoff would be played without them. Dammit, they were better than Miami who, along with an identical record and similar strength of schedule in the 40’s, had a head-to-head victory. And same with Alabama – whose SOS was top 3 and 3rd loss came in a conference title game which Notre Dame thinks is unnecessary – for them, anyway.
So Notre Dame quit, because nothing is more noble than refusing to play because you’re furious about something not going your way which shouldn’t have in the first place. Their fans then spent weeks online claiming hypothetical CFP victories over those two teams as well as the entire field, before finishing 2026 as Indiana’s 2nd-best team.
#2 – Texas Tech. The Red Raiders faithful are still alive and raging online after the embarrassingly failed attempt to gain eligibility for mad gambler, Brendan Sorsby, through the courts after he was banned by the NCAA – a rule listed very specifically in their by-laws – for betting on games involving his own team while he was rostered at Indiana. Sorsby then filed suit in a Lubbock court, where a judge brought in from a different district inexplicably issued a stay of his suspension (Reporter talk for “this is shady as hell but we can’t prove Big Daddy donor Cody Campbell bribed the dude”).
The Big 12 and the NCAA were a little upset by that and contemplated legal action against Tech at which point Campbell and Texas AG Ken Paxton made loud and terrible threats of retaliatory lawsuits should they proceed down that road. The Big 12 and NCAA immediately did so and the two blowhards and Texas Tech curled their tails between their legs, shelved their limp legal threats and informed Sorsby they would be parting ways.
Yeah, this was a little long, but honestly, I could make fun of both these guys for a long stretch. The inexplicable confidence in their righteousness is matched only by corgis who challenge greyhounds in zoomie Tiktoks.
