EAST LANSING – It’s officially official: Dan Bartholomae is Michigan State University’s new Athletic Director.
While he formally started in the role on Aug. 31, Bartholomae’s hiring was formalized after the Board of Trustees unanimously approved his hiring during the board’s Sept. 11 board meeting.

Bartholomae was hired on a five-year contract with a $1.3 million base salary, along with a $75,000 annual raise.
Bartholomae previously worked as AD at Western Michigan University since the start of 2022. This summer, he was named as MSU’s next AD, taking over after J Batt left to go to University of Kentucky.
Jon Palumbo, the Spartan Ventures CEO, announced Tuesday, Sept. 8 he’d be following Batt to Kentucky as well. Eric Reinke, MSU’s executive senior associate AD/chief business officer, was named interim CEO.
The motion was included during the consent agenda, so there were no immediate trustee comments.
