Morocco travels to North America for the FIFA World Cup this summer with the weight of history on their shoulders and the hunger to write an entirely new chapter of it.
The Atlas Lions secured their place at the tournament in commanding fashion, finishing as the dominant leaders of CAF Qualifying Group E with a perfect record — eight wins, zero draws, and zero defeats, accumulating 24 points and leaving the likes of Niger, Tanzania, Zambia, Congo.
Their legacy from Qatar 2022 looms large over everything, having become the first African nation in history to reach a World Cup semifinal, eliminating Spain and Portugal in the knockouts before a narrow defeat to France ended their remarkable run.
That achievement transformed the Atlas Lions from tournament dark horses into genuine contenders, and the expectations placed on them have only grown since.
Morocco further cemented their status on the continent by winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil, with Brahim Díaz finishing as the tournament’s top scorer.
Then came a significant off-field development: Walid Regragui resigned on March 5, 2026, and Mohamed Ouahbi stepped into the senior role (World Cup Pass) — a coach who had just led Morocco’s Under-20 side to World Cup glory the previous year, becoming only the second African nation to win that title.
It is his first job in senior management, but his track record in youth development has generated widespread confidence.
Morocco have been drawn in Group C at the tournament, where five-time world champions Brazil, Scotland and Haiti await.
