ANN ARBOR – There was no peeking ahead for Bedford’s football team.
The Mules, knowing that a showdown for the Southeastern Conference Red championship is looking next week, stayed focused and took care of business with a 35-0 rout of Ann Arbor Huron on Thursday, Oct. 8.
“I was a little nervous, I always am, but the kids were confident,” Bedford coach Dave Mifsud said.
That confidence grew when quarterback Luke Whetstone connected with Jaxson Lestock for touchdown passes of 22 and 11 yards in the first quarter.

Whetstone, who completed 9-of-14 passes for 145 yards, added a third TD toss in the second period, hitting Alex Mapes for a 52-yard score.
Rushing touchdowns by Masyn Moran (6 yards) and Chase Atkins (46 yards) in the third quarter triggered the mercy-rule running clock.

Mapes was 5-for-5 on PATs.
Moran officially ran for 99 yards on 16 carries, but had a 60-yard touchdown called back by a penalty.
“Everett Wingate was phenomenal,” Mifsud said when asked for defensive standouts.
The senior made 8 tackles and broke up four passes. Eli Koontz (fumble recovery, pass break, 4 tackles), Lestock (two pass breakups, 4 tackles) and Vaughn Gilsdorf (interception) also were strong on defense for the 7-0 Mules.
