NEWCASTLE, Texas — The debate for Team of the Week didn’t last long. In a season full of contenders and close calls, one Texoma squad delivered a moment so seismic it silenced every argument: Newcastle’s stunning Week Six upset of two‑time defending Class 1A Division II state champion Jayton.

The Bobcats snapped a three‑year Jaybirds dynasty with a 78‑yard interception return touchdown in the final seconds, a play that will live in program lore. Senior fullback/linebacker Keegan Voyles jumped the route, snatched the ball, and sprinted untouched to seal a 58–52 victory, Newcastle’s fourth straight win and fourth consecutive game scoring 50‑plus points.

“I was just thinking, ‘We got to stop them right here,'” Voyles said. “I see the spreadback go left, then his hips flip and the ball comes out. I reacted, went and got it. I thought my teammate was going to intercept it, but it fell into my hands and I just took off. As soon as I scored, I celebrated with them. It felt amazing to beat a two‑time champion.”

Jayton entered the matchup having outscored its first four opponents 228–68, but Newcastle matched them blow for blow behind a veteran roster loaded with senior leadership.

Head coach Isiah Archersaid the breakthrough was years in the making.

“It’s good seeing them overcome a big barrier that we’ve been fighting for the past two or three years,” Archer said.

The Bobcats’ offense is powered by senior spreadback Keyton Newland, fullback Voyles, quarterback Rylan Hinojosa, and tight end Cooper Clayton, all running behind an experienced line that has become the team’s backbone.

“I’d say our line’s blocking… they’re doing awesome,” Newland said. “They’re making huge gaps, making it easy for me to run through. If they score in 20 plays, that’s part of the game. Our main goal is to make them tired and make them run as many as they can.”

Clayton said the team isn’t treating the Jayton win as its championship moment.

“Their exact words were: ‘Don’t let this be our Super Bowl,'” Clayton said. “They want to see us go deeper and do bigger things than just that one game.”

Archer echoed that long‑view mentality.

“Our first goal is to win a district championship,” he said. “Winning that propels you to play a seed a little lower than you. We just want to get in the dance and make sure we look in the mirror and are okay with the man that we see.”

Newcastle now turns its attention to Thursday night’s road trip to Whiteface. With the rest of Texas officially on notice.
