Vincent Janssen became the first Portland Timbers player to score an MLS hat-trick as he helped the team to a thrilling 5-4 victory over Minnesota United.
In a topsy-turvy meeting at Providence Park, which saw Portland pegged back from 3-0 up, it was the Timbers who eventually prevailed and walked away with the points.
Janssen, in just his fourth match since joining Portland, scored a hat-trick by the 55th minute, becoming just the third player in MLS history to net a treble on his first start, after Didier Drogba (CF Montreal) and Milan Iloski (San Diego FC).
Kristoffer Velde was also on target, with a Drake Callender own goal also helping out Portland, while Minnesota, led by Marcus Caldeira’s brace, were unable to fight back a second time.

Josh Sargent also netted a hat-trick on Saturday as Toronto FC snatched a dramatic 4-4 draw with the Chicago Fire.
Sargent got his third goal in the 54th minute, putting Toronto in front after Maren Haile-Selassie’s double and a Walker Zimmerman own goal for Chicago.
Robert Lewandowski looked to have secured the win for the Fire, but Derrick Etienne came off the bench to net a 92nd-minute equaliser, meaning Chicago missed the chance to close the gap to Inter Miami as they recorded a third straight draw.
FC Dallas, meanwhile, came out on top in another high-scoring affair, with Petar Musa’s 97th-minute penalty earning them a 4-3 win over Sporting Kansas City.
Dallas came from 2-0 down to take the lead by half-time, but after being pegged back late on, Musa netted his second of the match from the spot to get his team back to winning ways, and at the right time, given St. Louis City SC’s current form.

St. Louis pulled off a shock at the top of the Western Conference, extending their unbeaten streak to 13 matches with a 3-1 win over the leaders, the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Emmanuel Sabbi had put the Whitecaps ahead after just two minutes, but Simon Becher, Tomas Totland and Conrad Wallem all scored before the break to complete the turnaround.
And there was some history made in Philadelphia as the Union continued their incredible turnaround by beating CF Montreal to extend their unbeaten streak to eight matches.
The Union won 2-0, with Cavan Sullivan scoring his third goal in as many games, meaning he is now the youngest player in MLS history (and the first teenager) to record a five-match goal contribution streak, at 16 years and 342 days old.
Danley Jean Jacques was also on target, propelling Philadelphia into the playoff spots for the first time this season.
