Michael Wilbon explains why Steve Ballmer’s punishment should worry the NBA the most.

After a hectic investigation, the NBA found owner Steve Ballmer and the LA Clippers guilty of the salary cap circumvention scandal involving Kawhi Leonard.

All parties involved have been heavily fined by the league, but Ballmer has faced the most severe punishment as the NBA has slammed a $30 million fine on the Clippers owner.

Additionally, Ballmer has been suspended by the NBA for a year alongside other top Clippers executives.

Michael Wilbon says Steve Ballmer’s suspension is a ‘big hit’

NBA analyst Michael Wilbon recently commented on the Clippers fiasco, stating he didn’t expect such a severe punishment for the billionaire owner.

“I didn’t think anything like this was going to happen, particularly to Steve Ballmer. Really, nothing happened to Kawhi Leonard. $700,000 paid back. Contract still going on, doesn’t miss any games.

“It doesn’t matter what happens to Lawrence Frank. It doesn’t matter what happens to Kawhi, because nothing’s happening to Kawhi,” Wilbon said.

He added, “Doesn’t matter what happens to Uncle Dennis. Steve Ballmer’s suspension is a big deal. That’s what I didn’t think would happen… it’s a surprise to me, and it’s a big hit.”

Michael Wilbon feels only Steve Ballmer’s

As of now, Ballmer is the richest owner in the NBA with an estimated net worth of $145 billion. Despite that wealth, Ballmer couldn’t duck out of the league’s investigation.

It seems Wilbon’s worried that the heavy punishment may lead to Ballmer cutting ties with the Clippers and putting the team up for sale.

Otherwise, there isn’t a reason why Wilbon would be surprised about Ballmer receiving punishment for his involvement in circumventing the salary cap to reward Leonard.
