The New York Mets have been battling an uphill climb all season long. The offseason acquisitions haven’t played up to expectations, while other stars have taken a step back this year.

Injuries have also been tough for this club as they have been without multiple players like Jorge Polanco, Luis Robert Jr., and the biggest being Francisco Lindor, missing 52 games and counting so far this year as he deals with a left calf strain.

On top of that, the starting rotation has struggled as well. Freddy Peralta, Kodai Senga, and David Peterson have not been sharp, which isn’t a recipe for success.

Mets took a hit in the power rankings after another losing week

Two weeks ago, the Mets were able to take care of business against the Atlanta Braves. They won their series 2-1, and some were starting to think this was the start of something new.

However, that was put to rest with what they did last week.

They struggled to get anything going, losing the series 1-2 to the Cincinnati Reds and then the same result against the Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend.

With this, Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter has knocked them down from No. 20 last week to No. 25 this week in his latest power rankings.

“A series win over the rival Braves two weeks ago looked like it could be a turning point for the Mets, but a pair of series losses on the road has them once again closer to the league’s bottom tier than they are to contention. There’s a good chance Juan Soto will be the only All-Star representative from a team with a $333 million payroll.”

At least the New York Knicks had some success, because it likely isn’t coming from the Mets this year. They have played well under expectations, which is surprising for a team with so much money on their payroll right now.
