BUCYRUS — Twenty one talented players across Crawford County garnered postseason recognition this spring which means this year’s All-Telegraph-Forum Baseball Team is comprised of all 21 split evenly across the first, second, and third team, along with honorable mentions.
But there was one positional player that stood out above the rest, along with a pair of pitchers teams dreaded facing this season.
Bucyrus sophomore Wyatt Makeever led the area and the league with a .471 batting average, 40 hits (10 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run), 27 runs, 14 RBIs, 11 walks drawn, 12 stolen bases, .545 on-base percentage, and a .671 slugging percentage. He was named first team All-Northern 10 and first team All-District 9 in Division VI, and he is the Telegraph-Forum Baseball Player of the Year for 2026.
Wynford’s Drew Pope and Colonel Crawford’s Van Wintersteller were two of the best pitchers in the league and greater area. Pope started 12 games with a 6-3 record and in 69⅓ innings struck out 64 batters, walked 16, allowed 17 earned runs, carried a 1.72 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and .180 BAA earning second team All-Northern 10 and second team All-District 9 in Division VI. Wintersteller also logged 12 starts with an 8-5 record and in 72 innings struck out 76, walked 32, allowed 18 earned runs, carried a 1.75 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and .249 BAA earning first team All-Northern 10 and first team All-District 9 in Division VI — they are the Telegraph-Forum Pitchers of the Year in 2026.
