Lamar Jackson is enjoying building chemistry with OC Declan Doyle

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson described the organization’s new offensive direction as “a breath of fresh air” while discussing his growing relationship with offensive coordinator Declan Doyle during organized team activities on Wednesday. Speaking publicly for the first time since Baltimore’s season-ending loss in Pittsburgh, Jackson offered an enthusiastic early assessment of the offense Doyle is installing as the Ravens continue to reshape portions of their offensive identity heading into the 2026 season.

Jackson acknowledged that the transition has brought significant changes throughout the offense, but he emphasized that the adjustments have energized both him and the rest of the unit during the early stages of offseason work.

The Ravens hired Doyle to oversee an offense expected to continue evolving around Jackson’s dual-threat skill set while incorporating new concepts and personnel flexibility. Doyle arrives in Baltimore after spending time in Chicago and now becomes the fourth primary play-caller Jackson has worked with during his nine-year NFL career, joining Todd Monken, Greg Roman, and Marty Mornhinweg.

According to Jackson, the transition has been smooth.

One of the most significant developments appears to be the collaborative relationship between Jackson and Doyle as the two continue to build communication throughout the installation process. Jackson said Doyle has made it a priority to involve him heavily in offensive discussions and planning, something the quarterback believes will help both the offense and their overall partnership moving forward.

The Ravens believe that level of communication could become especially important as Doyle takes over play-calling responsibilities for the first time at the NFL level. Jackson said understanding Doyle’s thought process and tendencies should ultimately help him operate more efficiently on the field.

Head coach Jesse Minter also praised Jackson’s progress during Wednesday’s practice while noting the importance of continued repetition as the offense develops timing and familiarity within the new structure.

“He’s been here a lot, so it’s not like it’s the first time hearing some of these plays, but it’s the first time being able to run them at some speed with defense out there,” Minter said. “Every play is a great advantage for him to keep getting better and keep learning.”

Baltimore enters the 2026 season with substantial expectations after another playoff appearance and an offseason focused on strengthening the roster around Jackson. The Ravens added rookie wide receivers Elijah Sarratt and Ja’Kobi Lane during the draft while continuing to build offensive flexibility around established veterans such as Derrick Henry, Zay Flowers, and Mark Andrews.

Jackson remains at the center of all those plans.

The two-time MVP continues adapting to another offensive voice while maintaining the playmaking ability that has defined one of the NFL’s most productive careers.
