Kevin Durant names his all-time greatest NBA starting five
Kevin Durant made some bold choices while picking his all-time starting five in the NBA
The two-time NBA champion was on The Mount Rushmore podcast with Shaquille O’Neal and spoke about various things, including how the LA Lakers legend would fit in the current NBA.
Currently playing in his 20th NBA season, Durant has all the laurels to be recognised as an all-time great. He is regarded by many as one of the greatest scorers in the game, and because of this, the 38-year-old decided to pick himself for his all-time starting lineup.
“I’m going to go with LeBron at my point. Since you (Shaq) picked Kobe, I’m going Tracy McGrady at my two guard,” said Durant on The Mount Rushmore podcast. “I’m going to go three and I’m going KG (Kevin Garnett) at the four.”
The discussion then came down to the centre position and there was some confusion as the initial rules dictated that Durant was not allowed to pick O’Neal in his lineup. However, Shaq then came up with a solution, which was a direct trade of the centres.
This meant that KD’s starting lineup now had LeBron James, Tracy McGrady, himself, Kevin Garnett and Hakeem Olajuwon.
Collectively, KD’s lineup had 72 All-Star appearances, which was one less than O’Neal’s list, as the four-time NBA champion had Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Karl Malone and himself in his starting five.
The rules were simple: each of them had to come up with a different lineup, which is what made the segment unique.
The hosts Ari Emmanuel and Ben Persky also came up with their starting fives, with some unique additions. However, fans would definitely be more inclined towards what Durant and Shaq had in mind when it came to their starting lineup.
