The 2026-27 NBA season is underway, and while every NBA season brings plenty of change, it seems that some things are destined to always stay the same.

The Golden State Warriors’ local NBC Sports broadcast team of Bob Fitzgerald and Kelenna Azubuike has finished in last place in Awful Announcing’s local NBA announcer rankings for three years running. Graders not only found Fitzgerald “condescending” and too focused on “teaching” the audience or complaining about referees, but the booth was also called out for its “homerism,” which even Warriors fans found excessive.

That homerism reared its head again during Monday’s game between the Warriors and Phoenix Suns. Warriors forward Draymond Green was assessed a technical foul for throwing Suns center Khaman Maluach to the ground and escalating things with Suns guard Dillon Brooks afterward.

However, if you let Fitzgerald and Azubuike tell it, everything Green did was within the lines. A notion so ridiculous that it wasn’t wasted on NBA content creator Kenny Beecham, who found himself on Awful Announcing’s 2026 list of rising stars in sports media.

“I’m listening to this Warriors broadcast, and listen, they’ve been around for so long, this is not a new take, but I just remembered why the f*ck I don’t listen to the Warriors broadcast,” Beecham said on the Numbers On The Board podcast.

“It is the worst broadcast in the whole league by a wide margin, because every broadcast has to be biased. That’s why you listen to [Chicago Bulls announcer Adam Amin] and rest in peace, Stacey King. You want them to be Bulls fans, but also you don’t want them to be jack*sses while being Bulls fans.

“And I feel like what they be doing in that Warriors broadcast is so jack*ssery where nobody can be wrong on the Warriors. Draymond grabbed Maluach, body-slammed him, and then choked Dillon Brooks! And it was like, ‘Well, I don’t know if they gonna get him on the choke.’

“Bro, Dillon Brooks face was purple!”

Beecham and Awful Announcing’s readers are hardly alone in their assessment of Fitzgerald and Azubuike. Last year, Zach Lowe asserted that there was “no more homer broadcast in the entire NBA, and for all I know in the world of sports, than the Warriors’ broadcast.”

We’re just barely past the 10% mark into the season, but it sounds like the Warriors broadcast is well on its way to its fourth consecutive last-place local announcer rankings finish.
