KEDCO explains reason for power outage in Kano

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has attributed the ongoing power outage affecting parts of the Kano metropolis to faults on the 132kV Kumbotso–Dan’Agundi transmission line.

In a public notice dated September 23, 2026, the company said the outage followed the tripping of an earth-fault relay caused by a windstorm on the night of Monday, September 21.

KEDCO said engineers from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), while inspecting the affected line, discovered multiple conductor cuts and tilted cross arms.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) engineers identified multiple conductor cuts and tilted cross arms, which required isolating the line and removal of some equipment for repairs and fabrication,” the notice said.

The company said the damage had affected electricity supply to the majority of customers in the Kano metropolis, adding that it was working to provide electricity through alternative sources while TCN carries out repairs.

“KEDCO is currently working to provide power supply to the affected customers through alternative sources, pending the completion of the repairs by the TCN,” it said.

The company apologised for the disruption and assured customers that normal supply would be restored once the repair work was completed.
