John Turturro can’t hide from the much-discussed resemblance shared by him and New York Knicks swingman Landry Shamet.

Turturro is well-known for his contributions to projects like The Big Lebowski, Do the Right Thing, and more, but he’s also become well-known amongst NBA fans as one of the many celebrity Knicks fans.

As fans joked about his resemblance to Shamet, the 29-year-old Knicks guard took it a step further by calling Turturro his ‘racially ambiguous illegitimate father.’ That’s caused the Severance star to respond.

John Turturro plays into the Landry Shamet jokes

In a video posted to Instagram, Shamet and Turturro link up, where Turturro jokes about coming clean with the secret of them being related, with Shamet laughing and playing into the joke by calling this a ‘legitimate’ claim.

“We’re related. Cat’s out of the bag”

The pair is playing into a long-running joke on Knicks social media. Thankfully, both have a great sense of humor about this. After all, the support of high-profile celebrities like Turturro was among the main reasons why the Knicks captured everyone’s imagination in their title run.

Shamet played a key role all season off the bench, averaging 9.3 points in 51 regular-season games on 39.3% from three. His three-point shooting was lights out in the 2026 Playoffs, going 47.5% primarily with a 92% (11-12 3PM) showing in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Shamet played a small role in the Finals with 6.8 points on 30.8% from three, but his year-long contributions have made him a fan favorite.

Knicks face Landry Shamet free agency decision

Shamet will enter the 2026 free agency market after signing a one-year veteran’s minimum to join the Knicks last offseason.

With his boosted profile after a Finals run, some teams might prize New York out of re-signing him. The Knicks can’t offer Shamet more than the tax mid-level exception of $6 million, while also having to keep roster space open to re-sign Mitchell Robinson.

The Knicks are just $14 million away from the second apron, so re-signing both Shamet and Robinson while filling out their roster might be too much for them.

There hasn’t been much reported interest in Shamet just yet, but multiple teams seem like plausible fits who could offer him more than $6 million. These include the likes of the Nets, Bulls, Magic, Pacers, and Lakers.

We’ll have to wait until the first week of July to see what kind of market Shamet warrants. The Knicks will hope they don’t have to break the bank to bring back one of their key bench contributors in a title-winning season.
