The Chargers will look for their first win of the season this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.
Los Angeles will enter a hostile environment at Lumen Field, with the Seahawks looking for revenge after suffering a tough loss to the Commanders.
Many things will be against the Bolts, and while they’ve done a lot to shoot themselves in the foot over three games, this jarring stat may tell only half the story.
According to an NFL Researcher, the Chargers have more giveaways (4) in the 4th quarter than points (3) this season.
The Chargers’ three points in the fourth quarter rank dead last in the NFL, the four giveaways rank tied for last, they rank 31st in 16.1 yards per drive, last in third-down conversion (10%), tied for 30th in five drives without a first down, and 31st in plays for 0 or negative yards at 48.7%.
Los Angeles’ offense has shown no signs of life, especially in the fourth quarter.
Mike McDaniel’s offense has been a dud to start the season, and Justin Herbert is no exception. Herbert threw a costly interception near the goal line while leading 13-10. On top of that, wide receiver Quentin Johnston dropped a crucial third-and-10 late in the period for a chance to move the chains.
Time and time again this season, the Chargers failed to convert on important fourth-down drives to extend the game.
McDaniel recently took ownership of the struggling offense ahead of Week 4.
“I’m fully responsible,” McDaniel said. “… I spend zero time trying to avoid blame. It’s quite the opposite.”
The only way for the Chargers is up, but with a daunting schedule ahead, turning things around won’t be easy.
