After a hot start to the season, Carolina Panthers wide receiver Jalen Coker suffered a quadriceps injury early in the third quarter of the Week 3 loss to the Cleveland Browns and did not return. He now appears to be on his way to missing the Panthers’ Week 4 Sunday Night Football matchup against the Detroit Lions.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared the latest update on Coker’s status early Sunday morning as fans prepped for the day’s early matchup in London between the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Commanders.
Latest Injury Update on Carolina Panthers WR Jalen Coker Hampers Carolina’s Offense
Through three games, Coker has caught 18 of 22 targets for 222 yards and two touchdowns. He leads Carolina in receptions and receiving yards and ranks second on the team in targets behind Tetairoa McMillan.
Coker has had a nice season so far, with a higher ranking in PFN’s 2026 WR Impact Ranking, coming in at 19th with a score of 78.7.

Schefter shared the latest on Coker’s injury before 9:30 a.m. ET kickoff in London, posting, “Panthers WR Jalen Coker, listed as questionable for Sunday night’s game vs. the Lions due to a quad injury, is unlikely to play.”
With Coker likely being out, that should trigger some roster movement with The Athletic’s Joe Person getting the latest from Panthers head coach Dave Canales, saying, “Also, Panthers elevating WR Ja’seem Reed and CB Robert Rochell from practice squad. Dave Canales said they would only bring Reed up if Jalen Coker (quad) couldn’t play vs. the Lions.”

Despite a strong showing to kick off the 2026 season, Carolina’s offense fell back to earth in Week 3, scoring just 18 points against the Cleveland Browns after surpassing 30 points in the first two weeks.
The Panthers’ offense ranks in the dead middle of the league, coming in at 15th heading into Week 4 with a score of 75.9, according to PFN’s Offense Impact Metric.

With Coker unlikely to play on Sunday night, the Panthers will need someone to step up to fill the void left by his absence. Running back Chubba Hubbard has been a solid asset for quarterback Bryce Young, but he’ll need wide receivers Tetairoa McMillan, Brycen Tremayne, and John Metchie III to step up.
