Irow's goalscoring form impressing Plymouth boss

Plymouth Argyle boss Tom Cleverley says he has been impressed with the impact Tottenham Hotspur youngster Oliver Irow has made on his side.

The 20-year-old winger has scored three goals in his past two matches for the League One side.

“He’s really confident, he really believes in himself that he can impact the games,” Cleverley told BBC Radio Devon.

“He knows that the lads and the fans and the staff have accepted him very quickly as a person and a player.

“He should be looking short term now, working as hard as he possibly can to have a really good season in League One with us and then hopefully that’s onwards and upwards to the Championship for Ollie next season.”

Irow scored four goals in 17 League One games for Mansfield Town during a loan spell in the second half of last season, with half of those goals coming in his final two games.

He has continued that good form this term and Cleverley says he is in regular contact with Spurs about his development.

There is a clause in his season-long loan deal which would allow Irow to return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January.

But Cleverley is hopeful that he can keep Irow at Home Park if he continues to play consistently well, in the same way as Brighton kept Amario Cozier-Duberry at Bolton Wanderers last season.

“I’ve seen so many examples where parent clubs recall and then you’re kicking yourself because he’s gone to the new club and not played,” Cleverley added.

“You look at what Bolton did with for Cozier-Duberry last year, there was a lot of talk about him going to the Championship in January.

“He stayed, he had a fantastic full season, the next year he’s gone to Middlesbrough and started really strongly.

“We’re speaking a long way down the line, Ollie’s got a lot of hard work to do and keep this run going, but we’re pleased and so are Spurs.”
