Insecurity: NYSC reacts as abducted corps members regains freedom after days in captivity

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has reacted to the rescue of the sixteen Corps members abducted in Kogi State on 26 August 2026.

The corps members were kidnapped while travelling from the Bayelsa State NYSC camp to Abuja after a successful Orientation Course.

The NYSC commended the Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, DSS, Kogi State Vigilante groups, and others who contributed to the search and rescue efforts.

In a statement signed by the Director, Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the Scheme said the professionalism, courage, commitment, and coordination demonstrated in rescuing the Corps members are deeply appreciated.

The Scheme said it acknowledges the unwavering support and commitment of President Tinubu to the safety and welfare of Corps members nationwide.

“The security agencies were indeed animated by His Excellency’s concern and commitment to urgently and successfully rescuing the Corps members,” it said.

NYSC also appreciated the families of the affected Corps members for their patience and cooperation during the period and the media for the professional manner in which they handled the entire episode without compromising the safety of the youths while in captivity.

“Management is relieved that all affected Corps members have been safely recovered and are in high spirits, eager to resume at their places of primary assignment. Their resolute spirit is humbling and instructive, and NYSC remains committed to supporting them as they recover from this traumatic experience,” the Scheme said.

The Scheme said it remains committed to the safety and welfare of all Corps members and will continue working with government and security agencies to strengthen protective measures.

“Lessons have been learned, and protocols will be reviewed to forestall future occurrences. Salute to courage, duty, and patriotism.”
