Insanely ready to be DONE with the Notre Dame Football offseason

I asked myself a really tough question on Sunday. What am I looking forward to more, the start of the Notre Dame football season or the end of the Notre Dame football offseason? A philosophy major out there will probably tell me that the two can’t be separated, but of course they can.

We don’t need to debate that question, but I’m positive we can all agree that we are ready for the Notre Dame offseason to be over.

Even though all offseasons can kind of suck for one reason or another, this offseason in particular has been somewhat torturous. It has been almost 9 months since the Irish last played a football game, and EVERYTHING has run its course. Usually I bask in the fun of the offseason, but maybe the podcast hiatus took more joy out of that time of year than usual.

Notre Dame being left out of the playoff was rough enough, but watching Indiana and Miami play for the national championship was an incredibly jagged pill to swallow.

The backlash for skipping the bowl game.
The “Freeman to the NFL” rumors.
The USC scheduling saga.

The list really does go on and on. While it’s “good business” for a website like OFD, it’s also annoying to feel like ND is continually being attacked.

And yet… it’s not been a full attack. Notre Dame is considered by many to be one of the best teams in the country, and multiple media members/outlets have already picked the Irish to win this year’s national championship. The praise has been served by the barrel, and far outweighs the negative nonsense.

And yet… I can’t take it anymore. I’m done listening to projections, talking about strength of schedules before games are played, and play0ff bracket predictions. I need something real. I need something to come next. There has been very little meat on the bone from fall camp, and while there are certainly some things we have a better idea about, Notre Dame has kept most of it pretty close to the vest.

So yeah — I’m done with the offseason, and ready for more. You can file that under “obvious statements” if you like, but I just had to get it off of my chest.

There. I feel better now. This week is basically like a bye week, so that means we’re almost there — finally.
