The New York Yankees may have their center fielder of the future. 

Spencer Jones could replace impending free agent Trent Grisham as New York’s everyday center fielder in 2027. 

Jones’ recent play could give the Yankees’ front office the confidence it needs to make that decision. 

Since Jones was recalled from Triple-A on June 5, he’s looked way more comfortable in the batter’s box, and the results can prove it. 

“Spencer Jones was recalled from Triple-A for his 2nd stint in MLB on June 5th. Since that date, he’s 1 of only 5 CFs with an OPS above .800, min. 200 PA!” Just Baseball wrote on X. 

Joining Jones on that short list of center fielders are NL MVP favorite Pete Crow-Armstrong (1.088 OPS), Tristan Peters (.840 OPS), Jake McCarthy (.832 OPS), and Steven Kwan (.802 OPS). 

Jones has a .832 OPS since his second promotion of the season to the Majors. He struggled the first go-around, going 4-for-24 with 12 strikeouts.

Now, the 6-foot-7 slugger is an integral part of the Yankees’ lineup. 

Last night, Jones went 3-for-4 with three singles and two RBIs in a 10-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies. 

He has nine home runs in 73 games, which is a 20-homer pace over a 162-game season.
