Chicago enters the matchup with a 1-0 series lead after shutting out Cleveland 3-0 in Game 1. Munetaka Murakami provided the biggest swing with a two-run homer, while five White Sox pitchers combined to hold the Guardians to only three hits. Anthony Kay is expected to open Game 2 for Chicago, with Sean Burke available to handle the bulk of the innings as the White Sox try to carry their dominant pitching into another road victory.
Cleveland desperately needs its offense to respond before the series shifts to Chicago. The Guardians will turn to Gavin Williams, who finished the regular season 14-8 with a 3.76 ERA and an AL-best 248 strikeouts. Williams gives Cleveland a strong opportunity to even the series, but he will have to contain a White Sox lineup that ranked among MLB’s best home-run-hitting teams this season. A Chicago victory would give the White Sox a commanding 2-0 advantage and put them one win away from the ALCS.
