France hosted Belgium and claimed their first home win in the Zinedine Zidane era after coming back from 1-0 down to win 4-1 after a late flurry of goals.
After the draw against Italy, the France team started with the clear intention of taking all three points. Liverpool’s Bradley Barcola and Rennes man Estebán Lepual had good chances; however, it was Belgium who struck first.
Released brilliantly in behind by Romeo Lavia, Dodi Lukebakio kept his composure in front of Guillaume Restes and fired a precise finish past him for the 0-1 scoreline at half-time.
From that point on, France struggled at times to create real danger, but everything changed on the hour mark. With the introductions of Michael Olise, Rayan Cherki, and Lucas da Cunha, the hosts found more freedom and went on to score… four times.
In the 77th minute, Désiré Doué curled in a strike from outside the box to level things up and release France. Shortly afterwards, Cherki completed the turnaround, before the ‘Olise show’ began.
The Bayern winger made it 3-1 with two minutes left in regular time before adding a second in stoppage time after being set up by a Doué who produced an absolutely magical solo run.
With this result, France go top of the group with ten points. Belgium, meanwhile, sit in third place with six points.
