A Georgia city has emerged as the leading candidate to become the permanent home of the National High School Football Hall of Fame, according to the organization.

Valdosta was named the top finalist of four “football-rich communities” listed by the National High School Football Hall of Fame Foundation.
The other three are Massillon, Ohio, Berea, Ohio, and Pittsburgh. No final decision has been made.
The Hall of Fame began in 2010, and the physical establishment has been in Canton, Ohio, since 2023.
“Football is part of Valdosta’s history, culture and identity,” said LaMont “ShowBoat” Robinson, founder and chairman of the foundation. “Valdosta has the passion and national reputation to become an outstanding home for this institution.”
Robinson also said Pittsburgh remains a serious contender.
The proposed Hall of Fame would include historical memorabilia, interactive exhibits, educational programs, special events and an annual National High School Football Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Weekend, according to the release.
The attraction could generate tourism, jobs, hotel stays and increased business for the selected community.
Since 2023, the Hall of Fame has presented three sold-out induction ceremonies.
It has also honored more than 100 players, coaches and contributors, including Peyton Manning, Jim Brown, Eric Dickerson, Eddie George and coach Paul Brown.
“Our goal is to partner with the city that shares our vision and is prepared to help us build America’s greatest celebration of high school football,” Robinson said.
