FUTA Appoints Prof. Olabode as Dean of School of Computing

The management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has appointed Professor Olabode Olatunbosun of the Department of Data Science as the new Dean of the School of Computing.

According to a statement by the university, the appointment takes effect from August 1, 2026, and is for an initial period of two years.

Professor Olabode began his academic journey at African Bethel School, Ikorodu, where he completed his elementary education in 1978, before attending Moribodo College, Ilutitun, where he graduated in 1985.

He later enrolled at FUTA, where he obtained a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in Industrial Mathematics and Computer in 1991, a Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Computer Science in 1999, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science in 2005. He also earned an M.Tech. in Statistics from FUTA in 2015 and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Peace and Security Studies from Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, in 2021.

The new dean commenced his academic career at FUTA in 1995 as a Graduate Assistant in the then Department of Industrial Mathematics and Computer Science. Through years of teaching, research and academic service, he rose through the ranks and was promoted to the rank of Professor in the Department of Computer Science in 2015.

Within the university, Professor Olabode has served as Acting Head of the Department of Computer Science and has chaired and served on several university committees, contributing to institutional development and academic administration.

Beyond FUTA, he has served as an external examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at several universities, including Novena University, Delta State; Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Ikeji-Arakeji; Achievers University, Owo; Kings University, Ode Omu, Osun State; Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State; Caleb University, Imota; and Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore, India.

A widely travelled scholar, Professor Olabode has authored numerous academic publications and is a member of several professional bodies. He is married and blessed with children.

The university expressed confidence that his wealth of academic and administrative experience would further strengthen the School of Computing and advance its teaching, research and innovation agenda.
