In a night that will forever be remembered, the Oklahoma City Thunder had several key players injured in their 108-101 win over the LA Clippers. The first of the bunch? Cason Wallace. It looked like he hurt his shoulder as he tried to go over Isaiah Jackson’s screen.
Instead, Wallace collapsed on the floor in pain. He quickly exited to the locker room — with Thunder GM Sam Presti tailing him and the OKC trainer. He never returned after that first-quarter injury. He finished with four points, three rebounds and two steals in five minutes.
Obviously, something to keep an eye on with Wallace. The Thunder ruled him out in the second half with shoulder soreness. Jaylin Williams also exited after the first quarter and missed the remainder of the night with wrist soreness.
The biggest injury of the bunch, though, was Jalen Williams. With 1:14 left in regulation, Kris Dunn collided with him mid-air on a driving layup attempt. He landed badly on his left leg. It snapped backward once he reached the floor. He eventually needed to be stretchered off as the Thunder and OKC crowd were shell-shocked.
But back to Wallace. The Thunder will see how much time he misses. He’s fresh off signing a five-year, $139 million contract extension with OKC. Promoted as a starter, they hoped he’d have a mini-offensive breakout in his fourth season. So far, that hasn’t happened. But the defense remains stellar.
