Fubara vows to complete Rivers projects despite political tensions

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, says his administration remains committed to completing ongoing development projects across the state despite the current political climate.

The governor made the pledge on Friday during an inspection visit to the 7.1-kilometre bypass road under construction to create an alternative access route for communities located around the Port Harcourt International Airport.

Fubara explained that the project, which was inaugurated in December last year alongside the commissioning of the airport road, became necessary following recurring protests by host communities that often resulted in the blockage of the airport route over disagreements with airport management.

“We’ve always had these issues where the community, whenever they want to express dissatisfaction over some activities of the airport authority, will block the airport road,” he said.

According to the governor, the repeated disruptions have had negative implications for movement and economic activities within the state.

He noted that the bypass road is intended to separate community traffic from airport operations to ensure easier access for residents and uninterrupted movement to the airport.

“The purpose of the bypass is so that the community can have its own entrance, while the airport road will remain only for airport activities once the road is completed,” he stated.

Fubara also revealed that construction work on the project has reached about 65 per cent completion, expressing confidence that the contractors would deliver the road before October.

He assured residents that his administration would not abandon any ongoing project, emphasising that the government remains focused on delivering meaningful infrastructure and development across Rivers State.

“I want to assure our people that, notwithstanding the situation of things, one thing that we have promised everyone is that every good work that we have started, by the special grace of God, we will continue and complete,” the governor said.
