Florida State closed on some elite players last year despite a nightmare season largely because they were able to stay competitive in the NIL space. That does not seem to be the case early on in this cycle.
There is a lot of uncertainty for recruits regarding Florida State. Uncertainty about the head coach, uncertainty about the on-field product, and uncertainty about its ability to remain competitive financially. When recruits and their families look around and see coaches in their third or fourth season with the full support of administration and boosters, the choice becomes much clearer.
