Former Trojans help Seahawks beat Patriots after Sam Darnold injury

Many former USC Trojans kicked off their NFL season Wednesday night with the Seattle Seahawks. The expectation was that Sam Darnold would come out and deliver a great performance, leading his team to victory. Unfortunately, Darnold went down with an injury early in the first quarter. The Seahawks were left searching for a way to escape this game with a positive result.

That is exactly where two former Trojans stepped up to deliver another elite defensive outing against Drake Maye. It was very reminiscent of the performance the Seahawks created in the Super Bowl.

After getting a huge payday this offseason, Leonard Williams showed exactly why he was worth every penny. Williams finished the game with 4 tackles and 1 sack. Williams controlled the line of scrimmage. Rhamondre Stevenson only managed to get 2.8 yards per carry in this game, due to a stud up front in Leonard Williams. Drake Maye was also fearful for his life in the pocket, as Leonard Williams was also a menace in pass situations.

Leonard Williams’ running mate and fellow former Trojan, Uchenna Nwosu, also stepped up big. Nwosu had 5 total tackles in this game and 1 pass deflection. Nwosu was flying all over the field, making so many great plays. He set the tone with 2 amazing tackles for a loss.

Just like at USC and just like last season, both Leonard Williams and Uchenna Nwosu were making a big impact. The Seahawks do not escape a disastrous start to a football game like last night and win without Nwosu and Leonard Williams.
