Former Tennessee baseball signee traded to Braves

Former Tennessee baseball signee and Kansas City outfielder Lane Thomas was traded to Atlanta on Aug. 1.

He and left-handed pitcher Bailey Falter were traded to the Braves for right-handed-pitcher Lucas Braun and left-handed pitcher Carter Holton.

Thomas appeared in 97 games for the Royals in 2026, recording a .232 batting average, .326 on-base percentage and a .393 slugging percentage. He has totaled 66 hits, including 10 home runs and 16 doubles, 37 RBIs, 31 runs and seven stolen bases.

Thomas signed with the Vols and former head coach Dave Serrano in Tennessee’s 2014 recruiting class, but was drafted by Toronto in the fifth round of the 2014 MLB draft.

Thomas was in the Blue Jays’ organization from 2013-17 before being traded to St. Louis. He made his MLB debut with the Cardinals on April 17, 2019. Thomas played for St. Louis from 2019-21. He also played for Washington (2021-24), Cleveland (2024-25) and Kansas City (2026).

The former Tennessee signee has a career .240 batting average and has recorded 86 home runs and 291 RBIs.

Thomas played baseball at Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. He committed to the Vols and Serrano as a sophomore. As a senior for the Bulldogs in 2014, Thomas totaled a .410 batting average, 17 home runs and 40 RBIs.
