Former LSU football corner records interception in NFL debut

Former LSU football cornerback Mansoor Delane made a statement early in his first NFL game. He picked off a pass attempt by Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix during the game’s opening drive. He returned his first NFL interception for five yards before being brought down at the Broncos’ 46-yard line.

As the Kansas City Chiefs’ offense came onto the field, Delane retreated to the locker room. When he was tackled on the interception return, he landed hard on his right shoulder and left for evaluation. Delane did not return to the game.

The Chiefs started Delane in the first game of his rookie season a year after a unanimous All-American senior season at LSU. During the 2026 NFL Draft, the Chiefs traded up to select Delane at No. 6 overall. He joined a roster that won two of the last four Super Bowls and looked to retool its secondary.

Delane came to Baton Rouge after three seasons at Virginia Tech. He won a starting spot and immediately became a leader in the Tigers’ secondary. He ranked No. 2 in the SEC in passes defended, totaling 45 tackles and two interceptions.
