Five-star edge rusher Asher Ghioto visits the new-look UCLA Bruins

One thing that has become apparent since new head coach Bob Chesney has taken over the UCLA Bruins football program is that no recruit is out of reach. Chesney, who’s leading a program fresh off of a 3-9 season, has already landed his first five-star recruit and now he’s working on another.

Edge rusher Asher Ghioto traveled out to Los Angeles to check out UCLA for a two-day visit. Ghioto is a 2028 recruit, making him a year older than Bruins’ five-star commit JuJu Johnson, but an elite recruit nonetheless.

Currently Ghioto is ranked as the No. 3 player in the nation according to 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings, which has him as the No. 1 edge rusher in the class. Ghioto is a Jacksonville, Florida native who’s set to enter his junior season at The Bolles School in Jacksonville.

Ghioto has the size you’re looking for on the edge, standing at 6’5″ and weighing 240 lbs with plenty of time to bulk up before getting to the NCAA in the fall of 2028. Ghioto has no shortage of offers, with Alabama, Miami, Georgia, Indiana and Ohio State all offering the young pass rusher.

Chesney and his coaching staff has earned the respect of Ghioto, as he told On3 Sports’ Greg Biggins “I like the new staff at UCLA and their track record speaks for itself.”

We’ll see throughout Ghioto’s recruiting process if he’s truly interested in UCLA as a future home or if he couldn’t pass up a trip to Los Angeles to check out UCLA’s elite facilities.

Even if Ghioto ultimately decides to not join the Bruins, the visit from a five-star is another sign of how Chesney has turned around UCLA’s recruiting efforts in just one offseason.
