Faster than Chris Gayle? Abhishek Sharma destroys New Zealand in Wellington to help India clinch the series

The race for the fastest century in T20 cricket has plenty of famous names in it, and Abhishek Sharma added another headline to the story in Wellington on Tuesday. India wrapped up the T20I series against New Zealand there, and the left-handed opener played a big part in making the win look easy.

Abhishek was the star of the chase, and he reached his half-century in only 15 balls, which ties him for the third-fastest fifty by an Indian in T20 internationals. His blistering start also helped India post a record powerplay total in T20Is after posting 118/0 in the first six overs.

The earlier record belonged to Romania, who made 116 without loss in 5.4 overs while completing a chase against Serbia in 2021.
