EPL: Michael Owen reacts to Phil Foden’s red card in Man United vs Man City

Former Manchester United star, Michael Owen has slammed referee Mark Oliver following a red card issued to Manchester City forward, Phil Foden, during the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Foden was shown a straight red card for a retaliatory kick on Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes after the Portuguese had first kicked his backside.

Owen, who also played for Liverpool, was on punditry on Premier League Productions and feels it was a harsh decision by the English referee.

“Trust me, it’s one of those red cards that just doesn’t sit nicely. It’s such a big game. There’s so much on it. People are going to take advantage of any little bit that they can get, and that’s what Manchester United fans and the players have done here.”

He also questioned the referee’s decision not show Bruno Fernandes a yellow card for kicking out on Foden, adding, “How come there’s no yellow for Bruno. Well, I mean he intentionally kicks Foden, I think you should get a yellow card for that.

“I mean some people say, well, one intentional kick and then another intentional kick. What’s the difference?
