COLUMBUS — The public address announcer at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium had a bit of fun with the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s switch from three divisions to five in track and field on Friday, June 5, telling spectators they were witnessing history as the first final featuring Division IV athletes.

While he was exaggerating the importance of the moment, every state final is a historic moment for the athletes and their friends and family members cheering them.

In addition to D-IV, most of the first D-V finals took place on the track Friday. Here’s a list of state champions in Division V:

Yellow Springs senior Llnyah Grant won the 100 in 12.35 seconds and won the 200 in 25.25.

Minster junior Molly Brame won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.96 seconds. She finished sixth in the D-III meet as a sophomore in 15.31.

St. Henry junior Cole Kaiser won the 100 in 11.33. He was the No. 13 seed in the event. He finished second last year in 10.88.

Ansonia junior Bennett Lehman won the 1,600 in 4:16.15, edging Mechanicsburg’s Beckett Negley (4:16.73). Lehman finished third last year in the 3,200 at state but did not race in the 1,600.

Fort Loramie junior Elijah Heitkamp won the 300 hurdles in 37.22. He finished third last year in D-III in 38.89.

Fort Loramie senior Landen Drees won the 800 in 1:53.94. He was the No. 4 seed with a qualifying time of 1:57.02.

Cedarville’s team of Gabriel Duncan, Archer Holston, Derek Orr and Bradyn Long won the 4×400 relay in 3:18.68.

Girls 100 hurdles: Grace Moeller, Marion Local, fifth (15.63); and Karlee Buschur, St. Henry, sixth (15.78).

Boys 110 hurdles: Elijah Heitkamp, Fort Loramie, third (14.59); Cade Shellhaus, Ansonia, fourth (14.71); and Bradyn Long, Cedarville, fifth (15.07).

Girls 100: Sydney Baker, Franklin Monroe, fifth (12.86); and Emi Wray, Lehman Catholic, eighth (12.98).

Girls 4×200 relay: St. Henry, second (1:43.50); and Fort Loramie, eighth (1:45.70).

Boys 4×200 relay: St. Henry, third, 1:29.07.

Girls 1,600: Claire Bohman, Minster, third (5:09.23); and Anna Yeomans, Ansonia, seventh (5:11.73).

Boys 1,600: Samuel Philpot, Russia, third (4:18.39); and Stephen Wojtowicz, Legacy Christian, eighth (4:23.64).

Boys 4×100 relay: Marion Local, sixth (43.83).

Boys 400: Elias Courter, Russia, third (49.61).

Girls 300 hurdles: Janelle Siegel, Fort Loramie, fifth (45.94).

Boys 300 hurdles: Bradyn Long, Cedarville, second (37.85); Shellhaus, third (38.37).

Girls 800: Joanna Tropp, Minster, third (2:15.94); and Clair Rodgers, Mechanicsburg, fourth (2:16.10).

Boys 800: Zach Heath, St. Henry, second (1:54.67); and Archer Holston, Cedarville, fifth (1:56.77).

Girls 200: Baker, eighth (26.02).

Boys 200: Zee Dow, Dayton Christian, eighth (22.87).

Girls 4×400 relay: Minster, second (3:59.53); and St. Henry, third (3:59.90).

Boys discus: Jakob Davis, Minster, fourth (57-4½); and Dominic Black, Tri Village, eighth (55-7).

Girls pole vault: Sydney Baker, Franklin Monroe, second (12-4); Riley Hagens, Minster, fourth (11-0); London Reichert, Ansonia, fourth (11-0); and Eliza Fullenkamp, Fort Loramie, sixth (11-0).

Girls long jump: Hazel Francis, Russia, third (17-5¾); and Mary Rindler, New Bremen, seventh (16-11).
