A Dallas-Fort Worth sports anchor is heading to Austin after spending nearly a year reporting for a TV station she grew up watching.

Abbi Bennett, who freelanced as a sports anchor and reporter for NBC 5 in Dallas-Fort Worth from November 2025 through September 2026, announced Sunday that she’s joining CBS Austin in the same role.

“Dallas, you’ve been so good to me this last year!” Bennett wrote on Instagram.

Bennett expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work in her hometown, describing her departure as bittersweet.

“This chapter has brought some incredible people, opportunities, and memories, making it a tough one to close,” she wrote. “But as one door closes, another one opens and I’m excited for what’s ahead!”

Her arrival comes nearly a month after former CBS Austin sports anchor and reporter Darby Brown left the station for a new role at 12News in Phoenix, Ariz., her hometown.

Brown was among those congratulating Bennett on her announcement, commenting, “Yay!!! Congrats you are gonna crush it!”

Before returning to Texas, Bennett spent three years as a sports anchor and reporter at FOX21 News in Colorado Springs, Colo., where she anchored evening sports broadcasts. During her first two years at the station, she earned back-to-back Best Sportscaster awards from the Colorado Broadcasters Association in 2023 and 2024.

Bennett graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2022 with a degree in broadcast journalism and a minor in sports management. During college, she participated in several student-produced broadcasts, including OU Nightly, Sooner Sports Pad and Gameday U. She also served as vice president and president of the Association for Women in Sports Media.

Despite both her parents attending the University of Texas, Bennett chose Oklahoma after visiting the campus. Growing up, she developed her love of sports watching the Cowboys, Mavericks and Rangers with her father. She also played soccer, which became her favorite sport.
