The Boston Celtics’ pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo has taken an intriguing turn, with the LA Clippers emerging as a potential third team that could help get a deal over the line.

For a while, Miami looked like the most logical fit.

But Boston’s interest has grown louder, and Jaylen Brown could be the piece that forces the race open.

Clippers enter Giannis Antetokounmpo Celtics framework

According to the Dallas Hoops Journal, one scenario being discussed would send Antetokounmpo to Boston, Brown to the Clippers, and LA’s No. 5 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft to Milwaukee.

“A potential multi-team trade framework making the rounds in league circles would bring Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Boston Celtics and send Jaylen Brown to the Los Angeles Clippers, with the Clippers’ No. 5 overall pick going to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of the return, sources told Dallas Hoops Journal.”

The report made it clear this is just one idea being floated, not a deal that is close to happening. But it is not hard to see why the structure matters.

Brown is a fantastic player, but he is an awkward fit for Milwaukee if the Bucks are rebuilding after moving Antetokounmpo. He is in his prime and on a huge contract, not exactly the type of asset a reset usually prioritizes.

That is where the Clippers come in. They can take Brown, while Milwaukee walks away with a top-five pick, something Miami cannot easily match.

Jaylen Brown Clippers fit could unlock Celtics swing

Miami’s reported offer is built around Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nikola Jovic, and picks. It is a deep package, but there is a different kind of pull to a top-five pick.

For the Clippers, Brown would slot in next to Kawhi Leonard, giving them another elite wing who can score, defend, and take pressure off their star. Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists this season, numbers that could make a real difference in LA.

For Boston, pairing Giannis with Jayson Tatum would create a devastating frontcourt duo. Giannis would add the physicality, rim pressure, rebounding, and defensive presence that the Celtics have sometimes lacked in big moments.

The cost would still be enormous. Brown is a Finals MVP-level talent and a core part of Boston’s identity. But if the Celtics see a Tatum-Giannis pairing as their best shot at another title, the Clippers’ draft pick could be the key to making it happen.
