Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick says Mason Mount was withdrawn as a precaution after the midfielder was forced off early in their 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain.
Mount played only 20 minutes of the pre-season friendly in Gothenburg before being replaced by Tyler Fletcher in midfield.
Carrick later played down concerns over the England international, explaining that Mount had simply taken a kick and was taken off to avoid risking a more serious problem.
“He just got a kick,” Carrick told Norwegian broadcaster VG.
“So we just wanted [it] to be a precaution really, to look after him.

“We want to keep the group strong and we’ve been fortunate to get everyone to this stage fit and well, so we wanted to be careful with that.”
The United boss also had to make a change in goal during the second half after Tom Heaton required treatment before being replaced by Dermot Mee.

Carrick’s side drew an entertaining game in Gothenburg as United continued their preparations for the 2026-27 season during their Tour 2026 campaign.
The Red Devils’ next pre-season fixture will come against Leeds United at Croke Park in Dublin on Wednesday.
Mount’s condition will be monitored ahead of that fixture, although Carrick’s initial comments suggest the substitution was precautionary rather than the result of a significant injury.
