She urged the NADDC to upgrade the existing charging station’s capacity beyond standard four-wheeled sedans to accommodate electric tricycles (keke) and motorcycles, the dominant moving assets within Northern Nigeria’s commercial transit matrix—while establishing a standard automobile maintenance workshop at the centre.

The proposed operational roadmap seeks to transform the university’s facility into an official regional training nerve centre serving engineering bodies across Northern Nigeria.
This would effectively decentralise specialised automotive tech skills from industrial capital zones straight to student learners.
Prof. Mustapha further advocated for a structured framework allowing BUK engineering students to gain priority access to the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) at various NADDC automotive testing and standards facilities nationwide.
Responding on behalf of the council, the Director-General of the NADDC, Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to the academic partnership, describing it as a high-yield investment in Nigeria’s automotive future.
He maintained that deep industry-academic alliances are highly critical to managing the transition toward alternative-fuel networks, assuring that the council will support BUK’s vision of turning out innovative, entrepreneurially driven engineers equipped for the emerging green transition.
