The Milwaukee Brewers are one win away from the first World Series title in franchise history, but Pat Murphy is not about to let his team get comfortable against the Tampa Bay Rays.

After Milwaukee’s 10-1 rout in Game 3 on Monday night at Tropicana Field gave the Brewers a commanding 3-0 series lead, Murphy praised his club’s relentlessness while making it clear the job is not done.

“I mean, the guys play hard. You know, it’s evident the guys play hard. They just, you know, they don’t give in. And they make every pitch count, and that’s what it takes to win,” Murphy said, via FOX Sports. “And that’s the same thing that Tampa did all year, you know. That team is very, very capable.”

Murphy acknowledged his team is in a great spot, but he was not ready to call the series.

“This is a best-of-seven series. So, it looks like we’re in the driver’s seat, but that doesn’t, you know, it’s baseball. Anything can happen,” Murphy said. “But I like the way we battle.”

His team certainly battled on Monday. After taking a 2-0 lead in the third, Milwaukee broke the game open with an eight-run fifth inning, with every run scoring with two outs. Brice Turang’s two-run single was part of a string of seven straight two-out hits, making it one of the biggest innings in World Series history.

Jackson Chourio led the way with four hits, while Christian Yelich kept the inning alive by beating out a force play that was overturned on replay. Milwaukee finished with 16 hits.

Robert Gasser was just as dominant on the mound. The left-hander tossed six shutout innings and allowed just one hit while facing the minimum. He joined Don Larsen, who threw a perfect game in 1956, as the only pitchers in World Series history to go six-plus innings while facing the minimum. Rays starter Freddy Peralta, meanwhile, failed to get through five innings.

The Brewers, now 10-1 this postseason, can clinch the title with a win in Game 4 on Tuesday night.

Murphy added that his club has shown it can pounce on any opening.

“You give them an inch, sometimes they break through and keep going,” Murphy said.
