FOXBOROUGH, Mass — At the end of mandatory minicamp, practice ended abruptly after there appeared to be a collision that occured between edge rusher Bradyn Swinson and quarterback Drake Maye.
While it was clear the entire situation was an accident, it didn’t stop people on social media from talking, calling out Swinson for this play. But, on Monday, following the third day of training camp, Swinson finally got the opportunity to clear the air.
“Yeah, it wasn’t a knockdown,” he explained. “I know they said it and made it sound like I tackled, but I never tackled him. He fell, and I fell behind him. I helped Drake right up… That’s a learning lesson. Just stay away from the money maker, Drake. You gotta stay away from Drake.”
However, Swinson never let any of the outside commentary get to him.
“Yeah, honestly, I really don’t like to pay attention to that stuff because whatever the media says, I can’t control that,” the defender said. “The only thing I can do is just come in and work and just work hard every day and do what I can do. I want to be accepted by my team, so I want to be accepted by the leaders on the team. I want to know how they feel about me. If they feel good about me, then there are more opportunities for me to come.”
But, everything ended well as Maye was okay after the hit, even staying after practice that same day to throw with his receivers. And Swinson has turned the page, continuing to try to carve out a role on the defense.
