Brad Stevens, Joe Mazzulla open up about adding Paul George, Mike Conley to Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics formally introduced veterans Paul George and Mike Conley to the team Tuesday (Sep. 15) afternoon (Mitchell Robinson was also slated to be introduced but did not make the event for an undisclosed personal matter) at the team’s Auerbach Center practice facility, the two newest Celtics joined by Boston President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens and Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla as the foursome answered a wide-ranging array of questions from the media in attendance.

Stevens kicked things off, saying “it’s an exciting day to welcome these guys,” who have been in the building for several days now. He also praised their “very accomplished careers, with tons of not only individual accolades but team accomplishment and a lot to offer in a lot of different ways to our group, which you can feel as you not only watch them work out with the coaches,” stressing how lucky Boston was to have them.

“I think that they’ll bring obviously a ton of impact on the court, but also feel like a ton of impact to our group off of it,” added the Celtics president. Mazzulla weighed in early as well, saying “I’m just excited to be able to have two guys that have been in the league for a long time and (to) learn from their experiences.”

“Both guys are extremely experienced and have had great coaches, have had great teammates, (and) have been through the wars of an NBA season, regular season and playoffs,” he added.

“Competing against both of them at different times during the season has taught me a lot, has taught our team a lot. (They) have been focal points of scouting reports in different capacities and (I’m) just excited to take advantage of those things, (and) at the same time learn from them. So it’s a mutual relationship, just based on their pedigree, who they are and what they’ve been able to accomplish in this league.”

“I think they’ll make us better, they’ll make me better and hope we can do the same,” said Mazzulla.
