Hansi Flick acknowledged Barcelona need to do something about bringing in a striker, but conceded Ferran Torres’ future will play a big part in what they do.
Torres has impressed for Barcelona since joining from Manchester City in December 2021, scoring 65 goals in 207 appearances across all competitions.
His tally of 21 goals in 2025-26 was his best return in a single campaign of his career, and he then followed that up by scoring the winning goal for Spain in the World Cup final.
As such, he has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, a transfer that could leave Barca light at the top end of the pitch after Robert Lewandowski departed at the end of his contract.
Barcelona have been linked with a move for Julian Alvarez, though Atletico Madrid have said they do not intend to let him leave, and Flick admitted they were looking for a new striker.
“It depends on the team. We have to wait,” Flick told reporters.
“I have total confidence in [sporting director] Deco, and we know we have to do something. It also depends on Ferran. We’ll see what we’ll do.
“Lamine [Yamal] has played a couple of games with us [as a false nine]. He’s a fantastic, world-class player, and he can adapt to that. Our focus is on him playing as a ‘seven’, but we’ll see what happens.
“I think [Anthony] Gordon and also [Karim] Adeyemi, they can play on both sides. They can play also as a number nine. We have a lot of options, and we’ll see what happens.”

Barcelona have already added two new wingers to their squad, welcoming Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi to Camp Nou.
They are still awaiting the return of their World Cup winners to pre-season, as well, with Dani Olmo, Lamine Yamal and Young Player of the Tournament Pau Cubarsi all on extended breaks.
Flick has no concerns over fatigue playing a part in the start of Barca’s season, though.
“Champions never stop. They know how to win titles, and it’s important,” he added.
“This title should give them more confidence. When you work hard and focus every day, it eventually becomes something special. That’s what we want to achieve this season.”
