Athletics Snap Brewers' Four-Game Winning Streak

For the Milwaukee Brewers and athletics">Athletics, it might have felt like that they played a doubleheader with a 12-hour-plus break. 

After a 15-14 donnybrook at Las Vegas Ballpark that ended early Tuesday morning, both teams eased into Tuesday night’s contest. In the end, though, the Brewers saw their four-game winning streak come to an end in the Athletics’ 7-5 win.

Robert Gasser absorbed the loss for the Brewers, falling to 0-3. Gasser pitched five innings but gave up eight hits, six earned runs, walked two, and struck out seven. But Gasser gave up four home runs to the Athletics’ big boppers.

Athletics starter J.T. Ginn picked up the victory, going to 4-3 this season. He worked 5.2 innings, giving up eight hits, five earned runs, walked three, and struck out five. Ginn also gave up one home run in his effort. Mason Barnett came on and worked the final two innings for his first save this season.

Brewers Jump Out Early

Christian Yelich singled to start the game, and Jackson Chourio came up to smash his fifth home run. That put Milwaukee up 2-0.

In the bottom of the first, Nick Kurtz – who else? – hit his 15th homer, a solo shot, and the Athletics cut the lead to 2-1. When the Athletics came up in the bottom of the second, Jonah Heim led off with a single. Henry Bolte then hit his first home run, bringing home Heim and pushing the Athletics ahead 3-2.

The Brewers tied the game in the top of the fifth inning on Sal Frelick’s RBI single to make it 3-3.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Shea Langeliers singled and Tyler Soderstrom smoked his 11th homer. Langeliers scored in front of Soderstrom and the Athletics were up 5-3. With two outs, Heim hit his fifth home run, a solo blast, to boost the lead to 6-3 Athletics.

Milwaukee came back, though, in the top of the sixth inning as Jake Bauers walked and Garrett Mitchell singled. Frelick’s groundout scored Bauers and the Brewers moved closer at 6-4. Yelich later singled to center and Milwaukee inched closer at 6-5.

Kuhnel Faces Old Team

Brewers reliever Joel Kuhnel came on to face his old team in the bottom of the sixth inning. Zack Gelof greeted Kuhnel with a solo homer, his eighth home run this season, to move the Athletics up 7-5.

That wrapped up the scoring on Tuesday night as the Athletics gave their Las Vegas fanbase something to cheer about with the win. Of course, the Athletics will start playing their home games once their new stadium is built along the Las Vegas Strip. The Athletics will move there in 2028.

Milwaukee was 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left six runners on base. The Athletics were 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base.
