ASUU warns Ondo Govt of fresh strike despite planned salary payment

According to Oshodi, the agreement took effect from January 2026, with federal universities and some state institutions already paying the approved salaries and arrears, while lecturers in Ondo State are yet to benefit.

He explained that the union’s demands are in three phases, with payment of the outstanding May, June and July salaries representing only the first stage.

He added that implementation of the new salary structure and payment of arrears dating back to January 2026 remain outstanding issues that must also be addressed.

Meanwhile, some final-year students expressed concern over the prolonged strike, lamenting that the disruption has delayed their academic calendar and graduation plans.

The university management, however, appealed to students and other stakeholders to remain calm, assuring them that the state government has already taken steps to resolve the dispute.

The appeal followed a 72-hour ultimatum earlier issued by the institution’s Students’ Union, urging management to find a lasting solution to the industrial action.

In its statement, the university said the intervention approved by Governor Aiyedatiwa was already being processed and appealed to students to remain patient while procedures for the release of the funds are completed.
