Massimiliano Allegri says Napoli need to produce a run of victories coming out of the international break, with Saturday’s meeting with Frosinone kickstarting a congested schedule.
Napoli are ninth in Serie A five games into their first campaign under Allegri, having drawn 1-1 with Fiorentina in their most recent match.
Their two defeats this term came in back-to-back games, against fellow title hopefuls Inter and Como, and the Opta supercomputer only assigns them a 3% chance of winning the Scudetto.
And as they prepare to return to action after a three-week hiatus, Allegri knows a strong run of form will be important if the Partenopei are to avoid falling behind the leaders.
“There should be no anxiety, but we have to be focused on the goal, which is to take the three points [against Frosinone],” Allegri said, as quoted by Football Italia.
“We will have to put together a good string of victories to stay in touch, and then there’s the Champions League, which is an important goal. But we have to think one step at a time.”

Napoli will play nine games in just under a month prior to the November international break, but they have been boosted by Scott McTominay’s return to training.
The Scotland international missed four straight games after undergoing a procedure to correct a minor heart issue, and Allegri plans to use him from the bench this weekend.
“The news is that McTominay will be called up, and we will have him available for at least 20 to 30 minutes,” Allegri said.
“Right now, we’ve lost [Antonio] Vergara and [Costantino] Favasuli for a longer period, but [Mathias] Olivera should be okay within a week. [Frank] Anguissa is recovering.
“We’ve got [Luca] Marianucci coming back in, as well as [Benoit] Badiashile, who has come on a lot. We’ve also got [Rafa] Marin available, so I’m not worried.”
Frosinone have made an excellent start to the season following their promotion from Serie B, taking 10 points to sit sixth in the table, three places and three points above Napoli.
Politano has scored three goals against Frosinone in Serie A, averaging one goal every 118 minutes. Only against Benevento does he have a better minutes-per-goal ratio in the competition (one goal every 99 minutes).
Overall, only Gonzalo Higuaín, Andrea Belotti, Duvan Zapata (all three with five goals) and Suso (four) have scored more goals against Frosinone in the top-flight.

Kvernadze has scored in his last three Serie A matches and could become the first player for the club to net in four consecutive appearances in the competition (Matias Soule also scored in three consecutive games in October 2023).
He has also completed 16 successful take-ons in Serie A this season, more than any other player.
Napoli have won five of their six Serie A matches against Frosinone, drawing the most recent one 2-2 on 14th April 2024 at the Maradona. This weekend’s hosts have scored at least two goals in each of these six previous encounters, netting 20 goals in total (3.3 on average).
The Partenopei have also won all of their last six Serie A matches against newly promoted teams, scoring 15 goals and conceding two. Only twice have they had a longer run of consecutive wins against such sides in the competition: seven between 1987 and 1988, and 15 between 2016 and 2019.
But after their 1-1 draw against Fiorentina in their most recent match, Napoli could draw two consecutive Serie A games for the first time since last January (three in that instance, against Verona, Inter and Parma).
However, before Frosinone in 2026-27 (10 points), the last newly promoted side to have gained at least 10 points in their first five Serie A matches of a season was Sampdoria in 2012-13 (11 in that case).
Should they pull off an unlikely victory and win this match, Frosinone would be the first promoted side to obtain at least 13 points after six matches in a single top-flight season since Juventus in 2007-08 (13).
