This may be the year the Tampa Bay Rays go all in for a World Series title.
As of Monday afternoon, they are two games back of the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East.
Still, we see Wild Card teams make championship runs all the time. If there were ever a time for Tampa Bay’s front office to be aggressive, it would be now.
With Drew Rasmussen and Shane McClanahan, the Rays already have a formidable one-two punch atop their rotation.
But what if they could add arguably the best starting pitcher in the Majors?
“The Rays have attempted to swing big in previous years, trying to sign Freddie Freeman as a free agent and trade for Shohei Ohtani when he was with the Los Angeles Angels,” FanSided’s Robert Murray wrote.
Tampa Bay has failed to land star free agents in both trades and the free agent market during the past few offseasons. Still, it remains a competitive ball club.
“And this is another case where I can see Erik Neander try to land the best available pitcher in baseball,” Murray added. Because Tarik Skubal, much like I said with the Brewers, could easily make the Rays favorites in a very winnable American League.”
Would the Rays’ rotation be as good as the Yankees’ with Skubal? Maybe not, but it could make them a very tough out in a short postseason series.

The Rays have three top-100 prospects they offer the Detroit Tigers for Skubal.
There will be plenty of other interested suitors, but perhaps nobody needs a pitcher of his caliber more.
