The Week 2 Associate Press Top 25 rankings released on Tuesday, and Texas A&M dropped two spots in the latest edition, going from No. 8 to No. 10, after defeating Missouri State 50-0 in Week 1.

It’s easy to look at A&M’s drop in a vacuum and say they shouldn’t be punished for shutting out their opponent and winning by 50 points, but it’s important to note who jumped them. LSU absolutely obliterated Clemson, and Ole Miss was the only team to notch a Top 25 win over the weekend, edging out Louisville in Nashville. Those were easily the two most impressive wins of a lackluster Week 1, so it’s no surprise that those two teams (deservedly) rose in the rankings. A&M just happened to be one of the victims of that rise. But things will continue to shake out, and all you can do is keep winning.

That shake out gets going in earnest in Week 2, as games including Arizona State at A&M, Oklahoma at Michigan and Ohio State at Texas stand to provide the first major rankings shakeup of the 2026 season.

As noted by TexAgs’ Luke Evangelist, staying in the top 10 this week also means we are in the midst of the longest streak of being ranked in the top 10 in more than 30 years for the Aggies. That simultaneously speaks volumes about the job Mike Elko is doing and also the struggles this team has had in maintaining consitent success. Let’s hope to keep this streak going for several more weeks (months?).

Texas A&M has now spent 16 consecutive weeks ranked inside the Top 10 in the AP Poll 👍

That’s the longest streak since the Aggies spent 20 consecutive weeks inside the Top 10 from 1992 to 1993. pic.twitter.com/Pez9pfkv1x
