Arch Manning looks for another win in family series as Texas faces Ole Miss

Arch Manning finds himself under scrutiny heading into his expected start against Mississippi on Saturday, Oct. 24, with ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky blasting Steve Sarkisian and the Texas staff for not using the quarterback properly in their offense.

Costly turnovers in the fourth quarter have piled up for the 6-foot-4 quarterback, contributing to the Longhorns’ back-to-back losses against unranked opponents, which have put their College Football Playoff odds on life support before November.

Now, Manning will look to turn the chapter against the alma mater of his uncle, Eli Manning.

CRITICISIM: Dan Orlovsky blasts Texas offense: ‘They don’t allow Arch to play quarterback’

The younger Manning has posted a 14-5 record as Texas’ starting quarterback over the last two seasons and has won seven of his last nine starts, dating back to Nov. 22 vs. Arkansas last year.

But Manning has had mixed results this season, with the highs being wins over then-No. 1 Ohio State and then-No. 14 Tennessee (where is uncle Peyton starred years ago) and the lows being five interceptions in six games and just two games with three or more touchdown passes. He also does not have a single rushing touchdown this season, after having 10 a year ago.

Texas and Ole Miss are set for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. The top-20 matchup in Austin, Texas between the Longhorns and the Rebels marks the first since Texas joined the SEC in 2024. A win on Saturday would give Manning not just his second win against a family member’s alma mater this season — as Texas beat Tennessee 20-17 on Sept. 26 — but would give him his seventh win against a ranked opponent as the Longhorns’ full-time quarterback.

Is Arch Manning related to Eli Manning?

Yes, the Texas quarterback is the nephew of the former New York Giants quarterback. Arch Manning is the son of Eli Manning’s older brother, Cooper Manning.

Where did Eli Manning play college football?

Eli Manning followed in the footsteps of his older brother (and Arch Manning’s dad), Cooper, and their father, Archie, by committing to Ole Miss to play college football. Cooper Manning’s career with the Rebels, of course, never took off, as he was diagnosed with spinal stenosis before he arrived in Oxford.

Eli Manning, two-time Super Bowl champion with the Giants, played for Ole Miss from 1999 to 2003, a career that saw him become one of the school’s all-time greats. He set the program’s all-time passing records with 10,119 yards and 81 career touchdowns, marks that stood until Jaxson Dart surpassed them in 2024.
