Philadelphia 76ers superstar LeBron James shared a special postgame handshake with VJ Edgecombe after helping his new team defeat the defending NBA champion New York Knicks 106-100 on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.
James, beginning his 24th NBA season and first with the 76ers, celebrated alongside the second-year guard after the Sixers spoiled New York’s championship festivities in their season opener.
The Cashing Daily’s Max Jacobson took to X, formerly Twitter, to share footage of the four-time NBA MVP and Edgecombe interacting on the court following Philadelphia’s impressive road victory.

The footage showed James wearing his blue No. 23 jersey alongside Edgecombe, sporting No. 77, as cameras surrounded the teammates. Jacobson suggested James was taking the young guard under his wing as the Sixers began their new campaign with a victory.

James finished his Philadelphia debut with 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, contributing across the board as the Sixers opened the 2026-27 season with a victory over their Atlantic Division rivals.
Tyrese Maxey led the 76ers in scoring with 28 points, while Jaylen Brown added 19 points and eight rebounds in his first regular-season appearance with the franchise. Joel Embiid contributed 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Edgecombe finished with nine points and four rebounds.
The Knicks entered Tuesday’s matchup celebrating their NBA championship, receiving their rings and raising their title banner before tipoff at Madison Square Garden.
However, Philadelphia spoiled New York’s celebration behind a strong second-half performance. The Sixers used an 11-0 run to close the third quarter and eventually held off the Knicks’ late comeback attempt.
James’ arrival and Brown’s addition have significantly reshaped Philadelphia’s roster, joining Maxey, Embiid, and the second-year standout from Baylor.
The postgame interaction highlighted James and Edgecombe celebrating their first regular-season victory together, providing a memorable moment after Philadelphia’s season-opening win.
